MSLF has been actively involved, in various capacities, to promote and develop historical and cultural tourism in Macau. Macau's unique history in East Asia and its many old buildings and historical sites give it much potential to further develop tourism. Aside from promoting Macau's long historical role as the gateway to Canton, MSLF has also been actively promoting and carrying out research in other aspects of its cultural heritage such as the unique neighborhoods in some parts of town from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Macau's 442-year history has many periods with unique qualities and characteristics. Promoting historical and cultural tourism is not only good for Macau's economy, but it is also very important for the preservation of Macau's unique social, cultural, and historical heritage in Asia. MSLF encourages such research and maintains a small in-house library to help explore ways to take advantage of Macau's inherent resources for the benefit of Macau's future.
